United Tooth Fairies was founded in 2016 by three dental hygienists: Roberta Schuller, Jolie Rowell and Lisa Mobraten. Through their dental community they attended conventions, outreach programs and fundraisers. They all had the same desire to help others, and agreed there was a great need to spread the word about the importance of oral health and provide services to those less fortunate.
Roberta’s friend Pam, who is affiliated with the IMA School for Girls in Guatemala, suggested they come down and meet the IMA team and the community they serve. All three headed to Guatemala hoping to hand out dental supplies and find out whether there was a need for dental care at the school. They brought toothbrushes and floss, a few instruments for exams, and educational material.
They fell in love with the students and the staff, and have returned every year since. They were so passionate about the cause that they formally established the nonprofit in 2021, and have built relationships within the Guatemalan dental community to further the work.
